15th Anniversary of Narodna Dopomoha in November 2009 03.11.2009

November 3rd, 2009, Narodna Dopomoha is celebrating its 15th anniversary.

With only 18 years of independence of Ukraine, this is quite a big figure that shows continued commitment to values of democracy, protection of rights of the most vulnerable groups, equality and solidarity. Today, Narodna Dopomoha is active not only on the local, but also the national level in Ukraine, being in the vanguard of work with the homeless and poor people.

When in 1993 the NGO "Narodna Dopomoha started its activities in Chernivtsi in the field of provision of social services to socially vulnerable people, we met many difficulties on our way. In cooperation with European partner organisations we have implemented many serious projects aimed at improvement of lives of vulnerable social groups in Ukraine. Today the organization works closely with the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy of Ukraine to improve legislation environment for homeless and disabled people, and with international partners and donor organizations.
Successful experience of "Narodna Dopomoha" in work with homeless people is today replicated to the other regions of Ukraine. In 2005 affiliate organization "Narodna Dopomoha – Kyiv” appeared in Kyiv (Kiev), which is successfully implementing projects in the field of social work with street homeless and their professional activation in the capital of Ukraine. In 2007 a local NGO "Narodna Dopomoha – Lviv” started in Lviv from street work with the homeless people, continuing with creation of a shelter for women in crisis situations.
In 2004, Narodna Dopomoha received the Solidar European Silver Rose Award “for the ongoing work providing the basic needs of the vulnerable people in Ukraine”.
